Shows that an important event is approaching and the current situation is a stage of preparation or tension before it.

Often used for important milestones such as exams, meetings, presentations, competitions, festivals, and launches.

新サービスの公開を控えて、チーム全体で最終確認を行っている。

With the new service launch approaching, the whole team is doing final checks.

Do not confuse it with 控える meaning 'refrain' or 'record'; here an important event lies ahead.

The important date is ahead, so things are tightening now.
