Shows that the first event becomes the opportunity or trigger for a new action, change, or decision.

Often used for life milestones, system changes, moving, graduation, launches, accidents, and similar events.

転職を機に、毎朝日本語の記事を読む習慣を始めた。

Taking my job change as an opportunity, I started the habit of reading Japanese articles every morning.

Do not use it for a mere time point with no following change; it emphasizes change starting from it.
