noun + の下で

下（もと） means under someone's guidance, management, conditions, or influence.

Common phrases describe studying under a teacher or acting under strict conditions.

先生の下で日本文学を勉強しました。

I studied Japanese literature under the teacher.

Do not confuse it with spatial 下（した）.

Memorize “下” as one fixed chunk, then practice by replacing words in the example sentence. Learn the connection first, then the nuance.
