verb受身形

The passive form shows the subject is affected by someone else's action, or gives an objective description.

The doer is often marked with に.

私は先生に名前を呼ばれました。

I was called by name by the teacher.

Do not force every passive into Chinese/English 'by'; Japanese passives often show affectedness.

Memorize “受身形” as one fixed chunk, then practice by replacing words in the example sentence. Learn the connection first, then the nuance.
