敢えて

N1Other

N1 · Other · 敢えて + verb / 敢えて + noun修饰表达

Meaning

dare to; deliberately do despite knowing the risk

Structure

敢えて + verb / 敢えて + noun修饰表达

Explanation

敢えて means deliberately choosing to do something despite knowing the difficulty, opposition, or risk.

Usage

Often used in formal explanation, commentary, and writing. It is followed by an action, judgment, or choice.

Example

批判を承知で、彼は敢えてその案を会議で提案した。

Knowing he might be criticized, he deliberately proposed that plan at the meeting.

Common Mistake

Do not treat 敢えて as a plain わざわざ; it often implies choosing an action despite difficulty.

Memory Tip

Remember it as “daringly and deliberately”: choosing it even though it is not easy.
