JLPT N4 Grammar

~条件形

N4Other

N4 · Other · verbば形 / adjectiveば形

Meaning

conditional form

Structure

verbば形 / adjectiveば形

Explanation

The conditional form presents a condition and gives the result or judgment under it.

Usage

Verbs and i-adjectives have ば forms; nouns and na-adjectives often use なら.

Example

時間があれば、手伝います。

If I have time, I will help.

Common Mistake

Be careful with volitional expressions in the second clause.

Memory Tip

Memorize the conditional form as one fixed pattern, then practice by replacing words in the example sentence. Learn the connection first, then the nuance.
