Explanation

Indicates the final outcome or conclusion after changes, consideration, or expectations.

Usage

Often used when the final result differs from expectations or when summing up how things ended.

Example

いろいろ迷ったが、結局いつもの店で昼ご飯を食べた。

I hesitated over many options, but in the end I ate lunch at my usual restaurant.

Common Mistake

結局 does not simply mean 'then'; it stresses the final conclusion.

Memory Tip

After things go around, 結局 marks where they finally land.
