Explanation

見える/聞こえる mean something naturally comes into sight or hearing, not actively looking or listening.

Usage

Mark the perceived thing with が, as in 山が見える and 音が聞こえる.

Example

この窓から海が見えます。

You can see the sea from this window.

Common Mistake

Active seeing is 見る; naturally being visible is 見える.
